Synopsis

Owning a business can be murder.

Ghostwriter Amanda Philbrook has spent the last nine months living on and off in Hashby, New Hampshire, while her new home is being built. Now, as she finally moves into her sleek, modern house in the midst of this almost postcard perfect New England town, she’s ready for a quieter life—one filled with writing deadlines, visiting the state’s tourist sites, and the occasional meeting of the Hashby Chamber of Commerce’s women business owners’ group.

But during one of those meetings, local artist Gabe Walters is found murdered moments after speaking with Amanda. One of the women, who doesn’t hide her dislike of Amanda’s newcomer status or her contemporary home, wastes no time pushing the police to look her way. Suddenly, Amanda is the easiest suspect in the room.

Gabe’s relationships with the women in the group were far more complicated than Amanda ever realized. Each woman had her own connection to him. And her own reasons for wanting him dead. As Amanda begins asking questions, she senses that Hashby’s long history still shapes more of the present than most residents know.

The more she uncovers, the clearer it becomes that the killer isn’t trying to hide the past at all—she’s using it. And Gabe’s murder was only the first step in getting exactly what she wants.

If Amanda can’t untangle the truth in time, her new life in Hashby may disappear before it even has a chance to begin.

I love writing this story. Hashby and Amanda have been living in my head for a long time, and getting to know these characters—how they think, what they hide, why they might kill—has been one of the best parts of the process. I’m still shaping key pieces, but I’m excited to share the journey with you as the book comes together.
