Trade Show Planner: Train Staff
Your 12 month trade show checklist
Training your staff is just one task in a large checklist you’ll need to complete as a trade show exhibitor. Review my entire pre-show, on-site, and post-show checklist of exhibitor planning activities.
Trade Show Planning:
Begin Training Your Staff
2 MONTHS TO GO. PRE-SHOW ACTIVITIES.
With only three months to go before the show, you should have already received firm commitments from your team on who will be able to attend. This includes employees assigned to booth duty and employees who will be going to the show for other reasons.
Educate each member of your booth staff on their responsibilities and what they will be doing from the day they arrive at the show through the day they leave.
If you are organizing an employee welcome dinner the night before the show begins, don’t forget to tell both booth staff and non-booth staff that they are welcome to attend your dinner.
Will members of your booth staff be required to do product demonstrations? Make sure you tell them ahead of time so they can brush up on all the product features before they get to the show.
Will they be required to help you dismantle the booth when the show is over? It is important to tell them now, so they don’t schedule a flight that leaves the show city one hour after the show ends. The minute the show closes they will be off to the airport to catch their flight and you will be left with no help to dismantle your booth.
This training will help your team know what to expect when they get to the show.
Once at the show, you should also conduct in-booth training so your staff knows who they will be working with, where extra giveaway items and product literature are kept, what they should do if the electricity goes off, and much more.
